What is Seborrhea?
Seborrhea (excess scalp oil) originates internally but appears externally as buildup on the scalp and follicle.
Simone Trichology identifies four distinct types:

Proper identification is essential for effective treatment.
Seborrhea
Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic scalp condition marked by redness, irritation, and oily, clinging flakes. It occurs when inflammation and excess oil production combine, often flaring with stress or seasonal changes.
- Greasy roots shortly after washing
- Heavy buildup on scalp or hair shaft
- Itching or inflammation
- Dull, weighed-down hair
- In severe cases
- “layered” oil buildup visible under magnification
- Overactive sebaceous glands
- Hormonal imbalances
- Excess Pityrosporum yeast
- Sweating mistaken for oil (hyperhidrosis)
- Diet, stress, and incorrect haircare routines
- Internal vs. external oil patterns (depending on subtype)
